One year ago, people in Alabama thought we were only going to get just a few flurries, and everything was going to be like a normal weekday, boy was everyone wrong!  In what was a busted forecast by every meteorologist, Central Alabama experienced a crippling and somewhat life threatening event when 2-3 inches of snow fell on the region.  What made the snow worse was temps were below freezing.  And when the snow fell, all of the roads turned into a solid sheet of ice!  That mean people were not going anywhere!

I was smart, because we all know what could happen when winter storms impact Alabama, expect the unexpected!  I went down to the grocery store the day before the snow event to get supplies for the rest of the week.  And when all heck was breaking loose, I grabbed my camera and took some photos and videos.

Yes, thousands and thousands of people were left stranded.  People had to sleep in public buildings, school kids had to sleep in school, people who had medical emergencies were left in trouble, and other people suffered.  But, the people in Alabama stepped up and helped their fellow neighbor.  In between taking those photos and videos, I helped some people push their cars, or directed traffic to not go up that mountain, and I even helped one person get their groceries into their apartment, they just made it home in time!

Sure, people in Alabama and the meteorologists will be ready for the next event like the one we saw one year ago.  People are also smarter today as well.  No, Alabama does not have the massive salt and snow removal equipment you see up north, it does not snow that often down here!  So, when snow is in the forecast, you will see people go to the store, and you see businesses and schools close down.  It’s just a safety precaution.  And if something like we saw one year ago happened again, people in Alabama would be caring and help out each other once again!  I am sure of that!

So, let’s finally talk about the Blizzard of 2015 that hammered the northeastern USA.  The northeast experienced blizzard conditions, heavy snow, heavy winds, and major flooding on the coast.  For some areas, this will go down as one of the worst winter storms in history.  While New York City only got around one foot and was spared, areas north of there got a lot more snow!  Here are the final snow totals!
