Product Review: Solid-Cordz Gold Plated HDMI Cable

Geek Alabama Product Reviews

It’s time for another Geek Alabama product review, and in this review, I was sent a gold-plated HDMI cable from the folks at Solid-Cordz.  The 6ft High Speed HDMI Cable with Ethernet 28 AWG provides an interface between any audio/video source, such as set-top boxes, Blu-ray Disc players, DVD players, video game consoles, AV receivers, and an audio and/or video monitor, such as digital television or plasma monitor, over a single cable.

From their website, they describe what their gold plated HDMI cables do.

  • HDMI Ethernet Channel – The HDMI 1.4 specification adds a data channel to the HDMI connection, enabling high-speed, bi-directional communication. Connected devices that include this feature can send and receive data via 100 Mb/sec Ethernet, making them instantly ready for any IP-based application.
  • Audio Return Channel – The new specification adds an audio channel that will reduce the number of cables required to deliver audio “upstream” from a TV to an A/V receiver for processing and playback. In cases where a TV features an internal content source, such as a built-in tuner or DVD player, the Audio Return Channel allows the TV to send audio data upstream to the A/V receiver via the HDMI cable, eliminating the need for an extra cable.
  • 3D Support – The 1.4 version of the specification defines common 3D formats and resolutions for HDMI-enabled devices, enabling 3D gaming and other 3D video applications.
  • 4K Resolution Support – The new specification enables HDMI devices to support extremely high HD resolutions, effectively four times the resolution of a 1080p device. Support for 4K allows the HDMI interface to transmit digital content at the same resolution as the state-of-the-art Digital Cinema systems used in many movie theaters.

So, I got two gold-plated HDMI cables.  Since I don’t have a HDMI connection to my internet source, I used the cables on my Blu-Ray DVD player!  To test out the cables, I played the classic 1980’s movie Caddyshack, which is in Blu-Ray.  The picture was very clear and sharp.  Other than the facts that the movie is from the 1980’s and you see the looks of the cars, dresses, and hairstyles, you might have thought the movie was made not too long ago in our HD world today.

The sound was also sharp and clear as well!  Although I can not test out the Ethernet connections because I don’t have the capacity, I thought the picture and sound was excellent!  And in my house, we like to watch a lot of movies and stream a lot of shows!  The Solid-Cordz gold-plated HDMI cords are $35 on Amazon, and you get two cords!  Since HDMI cables can range in prices and be very expensive, you are getting a good price from Solid-Cordz, and it will last you for years to come!

I will love using these cables when I get my own gaming console and my new internet connection box.  Mostly everyone over on Amazon leaving a review are very satisfied with their gold-plated HDMI cables, and for $35 bucks for two cables, you are getting a deal!  I recommend them!
