Last week, during the latest snow event in Alabama. Birmingham got a couple of inches of the white stuff. One photo taken of downtown Birmingham during the snow, has gone viral. And now, this photo below could help to raise money for a UAB student battling lung cancer.

On February 12, 2014, Birmingham, AL and the surrounding area quickly became covered in snow within minutes. I was able to capture a bird’s eye view of downtown Birmingham during this snowfall, and my picture quickly began spreading on social media. Since the picture went viral, I have been approached by a Birmingham tourism company, an artist who want to paints the picture, and others who wanted me to sell them a copy of it. No one is more surprised than I am by all of this. The picture cost me nothing, and I’m so glad so many people have enjoyed seeing it. I’m in dental school at UAB, and coincidentally, during the week of the snowfall, we were having a week-long fundraising event for a fellow dental student who is currently battling lung cancer.
In January of this year, he and his wife gave birth to their third child as well. I couldn’t think of a better way to use my picture’s popularity than for this exact cause. How amazing would it be if everyone who liked, favorited, re-tweeted, or instagrammed my picture contributed whatever they could for this cause? It’s a little better quality than what you can just right-click and save off of Facebook, but that’s not really the point. I thank you for your time and for your contribution.
