TV Review: Spooksville On Hub Network

Geek Alabama TV Reviews

I admit, there is a lack of mystery and suspense shows aimed for kids and families.  Yes, shows like The Walking Dead and American Horror Story are very popular and are filled with plenty of scary things.  But those shows are for adults and are not for kids!  The Hub Network has filled this void with the Haunted Hub.  They show classic Goosebumps episodes and the Emmy award winning show R.L. Stine’s The Haunting Hour.  Now, the network is premiering a brand new show filled with suspense called Spooksville.  This is a great addition to the Haunted Hub lineup!

Spooksville stars Keean Johnson, Katie Douglas, and Nick Purcha as your three main teenage characters who explore the mysteries of Springville, you think this a quiet seaside town where everyone knows each other, but you are wrong!   The new kid in town, Adam, discovers that he holds the key to a battle between good and evil that has been taking place for centuries in a bizarre small town that plays host to a wide array of supernatural and unexplained occurrences.  The series is based on the acclaimed book series by author Christopher Pike.  And the first two episodes get everything going very quickly.

In the first episode called “The Secret Path”, you will see Adam discover the mysteries of the weird town.  In part one, Adam and his dad move to a small seaside town to get a fresh start.  But after meeting a few new friends, Adam soon discovers why locals call the town “Spooksville” when he encounters a bizarre spider-lizard monster in his own bedroom.

In part two, Adam and his new friends, Sally and Watch, find a map to a secret path.  But mysteriously, the kids find themselves transported back to 1771 and witness a woman being accused of witchcraft, who could hold the key to unlocking a mystery in the present.  The witch is being played by guest star Kimberley Sustad.

After getting to watch the first two episodes of Spooksville, I really do think this is a great addition to Hub Network.  Along with the three main cast members, you will see actor Peter Bryant staring as Moorpark, he is really creepy at times in the opening episodes.  And actress Morgan Taylor Campbell stars as Ann Templeton, who is rumored to channel the spirit of her ancestor accused of being a witch.  She does not like seeing three kids discovering her secrets!  This is going to be a great series!

  1. This show is annoying with all the changes from the books. Why make a tv series if you’re going to change everything that made the books awesome in the first place?!?

  2. Every show that comes from a book is going to be different. For example, The Walking Dead comic books is different from the TV show. You can’t make the same things from the books because that is boring because you already know what will happen. Thanks for commenting!
