This week on Kickstarter Tuesdays, I am going to talk about two great projects that needs your support! First off, let’s talk about a special documentary about an Alabama Olympian.
Jumping to the Top by Rubicon Productions
This documentary is about Dennis Murphy, he is a son of a sharecropper, and he rose to the top of the equine profession with 3 decades of Grand Prix wins and Olympic Cups. Dennis Murphy Sr. is a lifelong Alabamian and horseman and has spent more than 4 decades at the top of the hunter/jumper profession. He has owned and trained some of the great showjumpers of our time, including “Do Right,” “Tuscaloosa,” “Lyrical Lou,” and “Continental B.” In addition to 3 decades of Grand Prix wins in America and across Europe, Dennis rode for the United States on the 1976 Olympic Showjumping Team in Montreal and was chosen for the team for the 1980 games.
Here is an excerpt from the Sports Illustrated article “A Country Boy Has Them Jumping:”
“I never saw Dennis before,” de Nemethy (US Olympic Coach) says. “I never heard his name. For the last set of trials, in Gladstone, N.J., he just applied and arrived, and look, the man is like a cowboy. What he’s doing is coming only from the natural instinct. Whatever you can tell him, he can only be better, but it is so obvious! The rider and the horse together, in a harmony with the center of gravity! This is what you can notice, and from nowhere! From Ollabonna! People from the West Coast and East Coast are being taught from little kids and they come to the trials at 18. Dennis is so much older. You don’t want to realize that somebody without your knowledge is so good. But Dennis has the natural feeling, the feeling for the rhythm, and the balance. That you cannot teach!”
This Kickstarter project is about the story of Dennis Murphy’s humble beginnings as a sharecropper’s son and his rise to the top of the equine profession. Their ability to successfully complete this project is very high considering 50% of the documentary has been completed. The Kickstarter portion of the project will simply be the second half of the expenses for travel costs, interviews, and equipment rental. Dennis Murphy and his farms are not only a national treasure, but one that continues to share his love and labor. Learn more about the farms at: www.longviewhunterjumpers.com
As of July 9th, this Kickstarter project has raised around $3,200 of the $25,000 goal they need to be funded. And as you know in Kickstarter, a project is not funded until the fundraising goal is reached! This project only has 17 days left to reach the $25,000 goal. For a pledge of $25, you will get a copy of the documentary as soon as it is completed as well as a free ride on one of Murphy’s horses at Longview Farm. This funding level also includes a Longview Cap! For a pledge of $100, you will get a copy of the documentary as soon as it is completed, and a free one hour lesson at Longview Farm.

Sketch’d Drawing App
Sketch’d is the world’s first iOS application that allows users to draw anything they want, animate it with their fingers, and share that animation instantly with others as a looping video– or as we like to call it, a “sketch”. Users can also take a picture and turn that into a drawing which can be animated the same way. Here’s their Kickstarter video!
Their interest began with simply loving to draw and share art with others. Yes, this was one of those ‘weekend project’ ideas that turned into an actual, real possibility. They then looked and looked and looked, but there wasn’t a fun and easy way to integrate animated drawings into current social networks. When they asked others what they thought, they agreed. Now, because they love drawing and creativity, they have done the research and brought together a competent, gifted team to build something that creators, animators, and every day users will enjoy. With Sketch’d, they are taking what you know and love, creating something new, and making it elegantly simple for you to be a part of. The best part? It’s all done by your fingers and a little thing they like to call ‘drawmagination’.
In the past year, they have bootstrapped quite a bit. Their team went from plan to plan, concept to concept, and then arrived where they are at now: the final prototyping stage. It’s time to show the creative industry and all the upcoming creative paper-thinkers that there is an easier way to do business. With Sketch’d, their main target markets are designers, creators, people who like to draw, video-sharing fans, brands, and…you’ve guessed it. Generation Y. They have imagined from the start that many younger designers and creators will begin to use Sketch’d once it is launched. For all they know– the next Walt Disney could come about just from using their app. Just take a look at how many stars have come out of YouTube and it only takes a minute to realize how powerful Sketch’d could become for Millennial animators.
As of July 9th, this Kickstarter project has raised around $11,150 of the $60,000 goal they need to be funded. And as you know in Kickstarter, a project is not funded until the fundraising goal is reached! This project only has 17 days left to reach the $60,000 goal. For a pledge of $25, you will get to reserve a username on Sketch’d before it’s in the App Store. Plus get a shoutout on Facebook and Twitter, name listed on their website, plus a Sketch’d Mousepad and the custom Sketch’d desktop wallpaper! For a pledge of $40, you will a Stylus to use with their app. The stylus is made with a custom Sketch’d design. Plus, reserve a username and get the custom Sketch’d desktop wallpaper.
There are many other pledge levels including t-shirts, Sketch’d gear, having a sketch featured, beta access, and even giving your two cents on the app. There is even a $10,000 pledge level where you will be flown to Atlanta, GA to meet with the team!
