Good News Fridays: Mitchell Marcus Scores A Basket

Geek Alabama Good News Fridays

I do these posts so people can have faith that there is some good news in this world!  This story is going to melt your heart!  Mitchell Marcus is a teenage student at Coronado High School in El Paso, Texas.  He is the team manager for the Coronado Thunderbirds and an avid basketball fan.  During the last game of the season on February 12, Marcus, who has a “developmental disability,” was given a chance to play!  With 90 seconds left in the game, Coach Peter Morales put Marcus into the game.

The first few basket shots were missed by Mitchell.  But then the other team had some heart!  Jonathon Montanez, a senior at Franklin High School and a member of the opposing team, down by 10 points, tossed Marcus the ball.  Then Mitchell made a basket and the crowd went wild!  Stories like this is what sports is all about!  I am glad there are people out there who cares about people with disabilities.  Enjoy the video from CBS news, this is sportsmanship at its best!

  1. WOW, thanks for sharing that, totally made me cry! With all the bad stuff we hear about athletics today, it is heart warming to hear that some people still understand what sport is all about!
