The tornado has been ranked as a high end EF3. In Bartow County, at least 95 structures were damaged, with 31 destroyed, 17 sustaining major damage and 47 with minor damage. Most of the damage was a result of trees falling on homes in downtown Adairsville. In Gordon County, 268 structures were impacted. Of these, 30 were completely destroyed, 110 had major damage and another 70 had minor damage. 202 of these were single-family homes and 66 were mobile homes. Here’s the track.
Today a massive tornado struck the town of Adairsville, Georgia. The storm started in East Alabama around Sylacauga and then tracked northeast. The storm grew quickly in the Anniston area and a tornado warning was issued. Luckily, no damage was reported. Yes, you could say that we dodged the bullet. The tornado killed one person in a mobile home in Adairsville which breaks a streak of 220 days without a tornado death in the U.S. Here is the rotation track below from the NOAA Visualization Lab.

And now, here are the pictures. These first photos from Twitter and Facebook shows damage along Interstate 75. There were around 100 cars and trucks overturned and thrown around at exit 306 on I-75. These photos are reminders that you should never drive in a tornado warning!
