The Subway Footlong Lawsuits

When I first heard of this story saying that Subway was selling subs that were not actually 12 inches long.  I thought some people were getting crazy.  Everyone should be familiar with the Subway $5 footlong commercials.  We have seen them on TV for a very long time!

It all started with a photo last week from a Australian teen showing a Subway footlong sub being measured at 11 inches.  This photo was put on social media and it spread like wildfire.

Ever since this photo, social media has seen many photos of people using a tape ruler to measure their Subway footlong sub.  Many subs have been 12 inches but indeed some subs have been under 12 inches.  Seeing photos of Subway footlong subs under 12 inches has gotten the company’s attention.  A Subway spokesman said in a statement, “We have redoubled our efforts to ensure consistency and correct length in every sandwich we serve.  Our commitment remains steadfast to ensure that every Subway Footlong sandwich is 12 inches.”  This photo from FOX 6 shows a 12 inch footlong.

And now lawsuits have been filed against Subway over the footlong claim.  A lawsuit filed in Chicago by Nguyen Buren claims his sandwich was less than 11 inches long and alleges a “pattern of fraudulent, deceptive and otherwise improper advertising, sales and marketing practices.”  Another lawsuit filed by Jason Leslie claims the Subway footlong ads represents “unfair and deceptive revenue.”  Leslie said, “They advertise in all these commercials, ‘Footlong, Footlong, Footlong,’ and now I feel like an idiot.  I can’t believe I fell for that trick.”  Here’s my response to these lawsuits.  Are you KIDDING me?

Seeing this news break out only makes me think of one thing in the past.  Remember the lawsuit where someone got burned because their “HOT” coffee from McDonald’s spilled.  The company somehow lost that lawsuit and now you see warnings saying the coffee is hot.  I find these lawsuits as very frivolous.  These frivolous lawsuits are a huge waste of time for the court system.  Sure,  I know it’s wrong that they’ve shorted their customers but suing over it?  That’s what’s wrong with people in America.  Did getting shorter footlongs injure you?  Did it cause you pain and suffering?  I don’t think so!  The judges should throw these lawsuits out!

I appreciate that Subway offers $5 footlongs.  Even if the footlong is just a tad short.  I will still get the feeling that I got a good value for the money.  It’s almost impossible to actually check each footlong with a ruler before the sandwich artists do their thing.  How much you want to bet that these people are just looking for a quick money grab. These videos online shows the Subway subs measuring around 11 1/2 to 12 inches.  I really don’t care about the size of the footlong sub.  I only care about eating them!
