I am living some fun and worrying times right now.  One; I have been unemployed for 17 months now!  And since I have been unemployed for so long I have drawn all of my unemployment.  I got the final termination letter right before Thanksgiving and I waited to talk about it because I did not want to ruin Thanksgiving.  So for now I am relying on family for money.  Since we are in the Christmas season right now, I am not in the Christmas spirit this year.  I guess when you have been unemployed for so long and searching for your 14th job in seven years.  You have hardly any Christmas spirit in you.  I hate I am now relying on other people for money, because I am not that person who likes to ask for help.  Even though I have a very empty fridge.

To help out in this situation  I went down to the Calhoun County DHR and I applied for food stamps.  This will be my third time being on food stamps since I graduated from high school in 2006.  So I am used to the rules of the food stamp program.  I will be getting a few hundred dollars a month which is great!  I am just doing whatever I can to save money from the other people who are now helping me again.  I know some of you say the food stamp program is full of waste and needs to be cut.  And I agree with you.  I have seen people abuse the food stamp program before.  I saw one guy buy a bag of frozen crab legs and pay with his food stamp card.

The food stamp program is there for a reason!  People like me have fallen on hard times and they need a safety net.  I have actually not eaten on some days just to save money.  And on most days I eat only one meal to save money.  Thank god for water to quiet down the grumbling stomach.  On the days when I have more than one meal.  It’s because I am at a friends place enjoying their food.  Newark, NJ mayor Cory Booker is challenging himself to live on a food stamp budget for a week from December 4-11.  That’s only $1.40 per meal!  The only reason why the mayor is doing this is because he got into a heated Twitter conversation with @MWadeNC.

@MWadeNC is a 39-year-old woman from North Carolina who believes that the more government gives to people, the more they will want, including, especially, food.  And yes; she described herself as a “Daughter of the American Revolution, fighting against any and all forms of socialism/communism. Army Veteran, Army Daughter, Army Wife.”  She even went so far and described Mr. Booker as being a secret socialist who was attempting to “redistribute” wealth.  No wonder this country is going down the tubes.  It’s because we can not get along and compromise!  We are all acting like big babies and not wanting to talk to one another about the big issues!  This will be the ultimate downfall of America!

By the way; follow Cory Booker on Twitter @CoryBooker.  I follow him and you should too!
