Weekend Planning: 8-31 to 9-3

This weekend is the end of summer Labor Day Weekend celebration.  Dragon Con happens this weekend and high school/college football kicks off!  So let’s start with the biggest multi-media, popular culture convention focusing on science fiction and fantasy, gaming, comics, literature, art, music, and film in the universe!  Dragon Con is from August 31st to September 3rd in Atlanta!

Dragon Con has everything you can think of in the geek and nerd culture.  There will be plenty of big name guests, workshops talking about many topics, autograph sessions, contests, people in costumes, tracks surrounding many topics, art show, gaming, and much more!  Some of the featured events at this convention include the Dragon Con Parade, wrestling, Walk of Fame, live performances, Night at the Georgia Aquarium, late night puppet slam, Glamor Geek Revue, specials with the Atlanta Braves, Apocalypto Disco, and much more!  This is the ultimate weekend for people who follow the geek and nerd culture and you would expect me to go but I will NOT be going this year.  If someone out there would hire me it would be a no-brainier that I would go.  For more information on Dragon Con go to: http://dragoncon.org.

Of course Dragon Con is not the only thing going on during the Labor Day weekend.  First is the St. William Seafood Festival happening at the Civitan Park in Guntersville on August 31st and September 1st.  You can dine-in to tasty things such as gumbo, shrimp, crawfish, BBQ chicken, catfish, and sides.  Or you can take gumbo and Cajun boiled shrimp home through the drive-thru.  For more information on the St. William Seafood Festival go to: http://stwilliamchurch.com/seafood_festival.

Also this weekend is the Art in the Park happening at King Caldwell Park in Scottsboro on Sunday September 2nd.  This event features fine arts, crafts, children’s area, food and entertainment. The proceeds from the show are used to serve the community through art and educational endeavors.  For more information on Art in the Park go to: http://www.threeartsclub.org/.

Also a very fun event will take place on Labor Day Monday September 3rd.  The Color Run is a 5K run event but this 5K is very different.  Everyone wears a plain white shirt and at each kilometer of the event is associated with a designated color: yellow, orange, pink, or blue.  As the runners/walkers reach the kilometer color run Zones, they are blitzed by their volunteers, sponsors, and staff with color.  Take a look at this video below to see the event in action.

The Color Run 5K takes place at the Barber Motorsports Park in Leeds, AL on Labor Day. For more information go to: http://thecolorrun.com.
