Shape Up! – Week 29

This is week 29 in my series of Shape Up!  The weekly post on what I did over the last week in my quest to getting healthier.

Reminder of my appearance on ABC 33/40.

This last week has been a crazy one!  I went to two job fairs in Lincoln and Sylacauga and of course nothing happened!  I watched the news and read the newspapers online and found out about two job fairs being held in Talladega County.  So on Wednesday I went to the old Lincoln High School for a job fair.

The job fair in Lincoln Alabama was really not that good.  I saw a bunch of temp agencies which I have not had a great relationship with them.  The problem with the temp agencies is a few years ago I went to all of the area temp agencies and most of them never called me back. One called me saying they might have a temp job.  This job only lasted one day and involved riding in a church van with a bunch of guys who smoked while in the van.  The other temp agency offered me a short-term job.  And after the mistakes I pulled off the job only lasted two weeks.  The other temp agency involved placing me in various day jobs and was payed that day; but it was not reliable.  After talking with some potential employers; they have not contacted me yet.

The second job fair was in Sylacauga Alabama at the J Craig Smith Community Center on Friday and while I enjoyed the free water from Christ Point Community Church I really did not find much either.  While I was there around 12:45pm a couple of the employers were not even there!  Most of the others were looking for people who had lots of experience working in industrial plants.  And you probably do not want to see me near an industrial plant.  Because of my clumsiness while at work I will eventually break a machine or hurt someone.  And yes I have done that before; that’s why I am still looking for my 14th job in 6 1/2 years.  I did enjoy talking to the folks from Blue Bell Creamery and a local business called Raspberry Bakery in Sylacauga https://www.facebook.com/RaspberryBakery.  You will see me soon wanting to do a business review on Geek Alabama.

I also saw some familiar faces at the Lincoln Job Fair.  I went to the Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services a few years ago and they worked with me.  But after getting a CDL License, and the last two jobs involved driving a truck and driving for Fed Ex, things did not go so well.  After an employee at the Anniston office was not working with me I had to appeal to someone at the Talladega office after contacting Montgomery.  But this employee did not work with me as well.  They tried to help me find work by appointing someone from the Opportunity Center in Anniston.  I did a job or two to see where I was at skills wise but nothing happened after that; except from a few phone calls.  Then I was placed in what I call an adult day care at the Calhoun-Cleburne Mental Health Center.  I told the doctors there I felt like I did not belong in this program.  And can you believe this; some of the folks there had no clue what autism was.  The day program was for adults of all ages and nothing much happened.  I felt like this was an adult day care program so the people running the group homes can have a break.  Luckily this only lasted a few days because Fed Ex called and I went to work.  But now I am jobless again.  I write this because I am sending this to someone I know and I felt like you needed to know as well.

Here is what I ate last week:

Saturday: Hotpockets, Sweet tea.

Sunday: Ham & swiss sandwich, Chips, Sweet tea.

Monday: Hotpockets, Sweet tea.

Tuesday: Pork Chops, Brown rice, Sweet tea.

Wednesday: Hotpockets, Sweet tea.

Have a good week everyone!
