The Evening Post: 5-8

This lip dub video from the staff and students of Smiths Station High School has gone viral.  The video was produced by the PNN Staff. And it features the entire student body including all clubs, athletic teams, and organizations. The video was filmed in one continuous shot during a break between classes and includes a big finish ending taken from a helicopter.  Kudos to everyone in this video and maybe this is an idea for my brother David since he likes making videos.

Animation Monday: Cell Phones

I think this Animation Monday on a Tuesday is very timely.  Governor Bentley signed a bill today that would ticket people who text and drive.  I think this is a very smart bill for Alabama because I see people doing stupid things all the time when I drive.

And for the people who say the government needs to stay out of our lives.  Admit it; you know it’s dangerous to use a cell phone while driving.  So just pull over when you have to use a phone and it will make us all happy :).  Now this classic Disney cartoon featuring Goofy fits in very well with this news issue.  How many of us are calm nice people and when we get into a car we turn into a crazy manic.  Who knew that this classic cartoon would still hold some weight to this day?

Weekend Planning: 5-11 to 5-13

This weekend our area has some interesting festivals going on.  This first one is for the people who loves the giant red berry called a strawberry.  The Cullman Strawberry Festival  is on May 11-12 and will feature many things everyone in the family can do.  This year’s theme is paint the town strawberry red.

For one truckloads of strawberries will be delivered to downtown Cullman and many food products such as pies, cakes, jams, and breads will be made with strawberries.  Plus there will be bands performing on both days.  An 5K run and a wiener dog race will occur on Saturday.  Classic cars and antique tractors will also be featured for all the guys out there.  Plus there is also an arts and crafts fair featuring many art products.  The newest feature is something called Cullman Idol.  And you know that will be a very competitive contest.  The Cullman Strawberry Festival is on May 11-12 and is free!  For more information go to http://www.cullmancity.org/FesthalleMarketPlatz.htm.

Are strawberries not your thing?  Well I have got two other events if you love BBQ or cardboard boat races.  The Roman Roast on the River happens on May 11-12 in Rome, GA.

This festival features a kid zone, car show, carnival games, and plenty of vendors.  But this festival is mostly about the BBQ.  People can buy tickets and taste the BBQ the competitors are cooking for the judges.  And plus there is going to be great music including Molly Hatchet playing on Friday Night.  Tickets for the concert are $20 each.  And tickets for the day on Saturday are $5 each.  For more information go to http://www.rfpra.com/RomanRoastontheRiverSchedule.html

Also on Saturday is the Paddlin’ 4 Paws Cardboard Boat Regatta on Lake Wedowee.  This event put on by the Randolph County Animal Shelter will feature competitors racing homemade cardboard boats through an obstacle course on the lake.  Or you can race inter-tubes on the lake.  This also sounds like a fun event which occurs on May 12.  For more information go to http://www.randolphshelter.org/
