Sunday Discussion: The People I Would Love to Meet

Yeah I know this is a little late. I spent all day Sunday changing over from Young’s Blog to Geek Alabama. But with the launch of Geek Alabama, A Guy’s Cuisine, Traffic Light Pixels, and Redo AL’S Roads. There are six people out there I would love to meet and interview for Geek Alabama. This blog is growing by leaps and bounds every day!

So these six people I would love to meet all have an Alabama or south connection. There are many talented people here in the south that often gets passed up because we live in the south. So here are my six people!

Whitney Miller

Whitney Miller is the winner of the first season of “Masterchef.” She was raised under a great family atmosphere whom taught her to be a great cook. She also is a big believer of faith and having a great family support. Since winning “Masterchef” she has been to numerous foodie events and has hosted numerous cookbook signings for her cookbook “Modern Hospitality Simple Recipes with Southern Charm.” I would love for her to come out to the Anniston/Oxford area to hold a cookbook signing. She has also inspired many young people (millennials) to get back into the kitchen which is great. Not bad for someone dubbed the “pastry princess.”

Travis Taylor

Travis Taylor is an rocket scientist, author, and now TV host from the Huntsville area. Mr. Taylor has authored numerous books in the science fiction category including “Human by Choice”, “Vorpal Blade”, and “One Good Solider.” Mr. Taylor works in the Huntsville area and is working to develop space telescopes, combat technologies, new space launch concepts, and anything else you can imagine that could be used in space. His latest project is the TV show “Rocket City Rednecks.” Which has been very successful and has inspired many people that you can use science in a somewhat redneck way. Who knew that science could be fun!

Ruben Studdard and Taylor Hicks

These two guys helped to fuel an American Idol frenzy in the state of Alabama. Both guys won their seasons of American Idol. And these guys has done many projects ever since. Ruben Studdard won the 2nd season of American Idol. He was made famous by being called the “velvet teddy bear” and wearing those 205 shirts. Today he is still in the music business and is planning another record release. Ruben also has started a foundation that helps keep arts in education in the Birmingham metro.

Taylor Hicks won the 5th season of American Idol. During his stint his fans were dubbed as the “soul patrol.” Taylor Hicks has released several records and has appeared on numerous TV shows and even did a stint on the Broadway show “Grease.” Taylor has now gotten into the restaurant business as co-owner of ORE Restaurant in Mountain Brook. Both men have been rumored to be opening up businesses in the new BJCC entertainment district in downtown Birmingham.

Alton Brown

Alton Brown is a famous chef and multiple TV host that lives in the Atlanta metro. His most famous show called “Good Eats” used science and several funny characters to illustrate ways of cooking food. The show has since ended production. His other TV works include “Iron Chef America“, “Feasting on Asphalt“, and several commercial ads including Welch’s grape juice. Just like Whitney above Alton is also a firm believer of being a Christian. Believe me the south is home to numerous people who believe in faith. My brother is a huge fan of Alton Brown and he would freak out if he saw a post of an Alton Brown interview on Geek Alabama!

Dan Povenmire

Dan Povenmire is formerly from the Mobile metro and is now co-creator of the successful animated show “Phineas and Ferb.” Dan has also been part of other animated projects including “Family Guy”, “Hey Arnold!”, “The Simpsons”, “SpongeBob SquarePants“, and one of my favorite classic cartoons “Rocko’s Modern Life.” Dan Povenmire spent his summers growing up outdoors doing various activities including making movies. Many kids needs to do something like that today. It took Dan Povenmire and co-creator Jeff “Swampy” Marsh over 15 years to pitch “Phineas and Ferb.” And today it is a huge success!
