Introducing Geek Alabama

I have been amazed on what this blog has done since it has started in August 2011.  I thank all of you for coming here and reading.  But there also comes a time when you need to make some changes to capitalize your success.  So the time is now!

Introducing Geek Alabama

Geek Alabama is going to be all about the culture of Alabama.  Especially the geeky, technology side.  Many of the current posts I do on Young’s Blog will continue on Geek Alabama including recipes and crafts, reviews, weekend events, animation talk, Shape Up!, Roadscapes, Sunday Discussion, current Alabama topics, and other topics that carries a interest in Alabama.  But people should also realize that Alabama has a huge geeky culture.  Let’s face it; many people who have never visited Alabama think we are a bunch of southern Rednecks who do things in a backward way.  But they are so wrong!  Huntsville is the rocket capital of the world; and yes there are tons of geeks and nerds living there.  Birmingham also is a technology driven city.  And the other urban areas in Alabama has many people following the technology culture.

So what can you expect on Geek Alabama?  First many of the posts on Young’s Blog will carry over.  There are many geeks who love to cook and do crafts.  Many geeks love watching animation.  And many technology driven people love going out to events.  So all of that is going to continue on Geek Alabama.

But there will be new posts and topics that will be gradually introduced.  You will see more reviews; interviews; contests and giveaways; and other stuff that will make this a popular blog to go to.  The first big difference everyone will notice is a different look.  Yes we are going to move from WordPress.com to WordPress.org.  WordPress has been a wonderful host of this blog and they will continue to help run this blog.

Another big eventual difference will be the number of contributors.  To run a successful blog you need several people committing to it.  So I am looking for people who can commit to one or two posts a week.  If you are interested contact me at barcncpt44@aol.com.  By the way I will be launching a new e-mail soon.  I am excited that we are going to expand.  And please join us on Sunday April 1st as we launch Geek Alabama!

Making Some Homemade Biscuits

picture1skjsk9

This week I decided to make something for breakfast.  I am trying out different biscuit recipes and this one is okay.  The biscuits crumbled when I tried to split them in half.  So this is a work in progress to find the perfect biscuit recipe.

1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Cut in the shortening until the mixture.  Then stir in milk into dough.

2. Turn dough out onto a floured surface and knead.  Make dough 1 inch thick and then cut with glass cup and place onto baking sheet.

3. Bake for 13-15 minutes or until golden brown on edges.  Then enjoy!
